GMB Union has responded to the rise in the real living wage, announced today [Monday 15 November 2021]
Gary Smith, GMB General Secretary, said:
“While any increase to the Foundation Living Wage rate is welcome, this can’t be a moment of congratulation for business.
“Workers are facing a cost-of-living crisis, and employers face a recruitment crisis, after years of politically driven cuts and a race-to-the-bottom by many employers.
“It’s taken the covid pandemic to expose these failures and now we need some honesty in the debate over the value of wages.
“This below-inflation increase won’t go far enough."
