GMB, the energy union, has responded to the Government’s announcement of £240 million to support the production of hydrogen.
Gary Smith, GMB General Secretary, said:
"GMB called for the hydrogen production target to be doubled - but the Government must now move beyond ambitions and offer a serious plan for delivery.
"Most of the Government's hydrogen funding had already been announced and workers in the gas sector and energy-intensive industries need Ministers to go further and provide certainty over their futures.
"We cannot repeat the scandal of the existing renewables funding mechanism: a green poll-tax that has seen billions of pounds of taxpayers' money fund projects that repeatedly export essential UK jobs overseas."
