GMB Trade Union - Disruption of heat pumps puts of consumers - not just cost

GMB, the energy union, has question a report suggesting four fifths of people would swap their gas boiler for a clean heat pump if they had financial support.

Gary Carter, GMB National Officer, said:

"The UK urgently needs a grown-up strategy for low carbon home heating.

"But ploughing ahead with heat pumps - relying on unproven science and unsuitable for much of the current housing stock - is absurd.

"Of course people would consider installing them if they are given the cash to do so.

"But once they realise the huge disruption involved, including ripping out their existing boiler and radiators, most people will run a mile.

"Workers, the industry and households all need certainty moving forward which requires agreement on a multi-faceted plan, with a focus on hydrogen mixed fuels to make use of existing gas infrastructure."
