Paper, pulp, tissue, corrugated packaging and print‑related products are a vital part of our manufacturing base, underpinning supply chains, retail, logistics, food production, e‑commerce, education and public services. As the collective voice for thousands of Paper & Packaging workers who keep the country supplied and moving, we champion strong domestic manufacturing and long‑term industrial investment, the protection of skilled jobs and secure permanent employment, decent collectively bargained pay and conditions, high‑quality apprenticeships and skills pathways for working‑class communities, sustainable production rooted in a worker‑led just transition, and robust supply chains supported by a national industrial strategy centred on workers.
In an era of global competition and consolidation, we challenge mergers, acquisitions, offshoring and business models that would undermine good domestic manufacturing jobs at home. We oppose the rise of insecure, agency‑dominated workforces and continue to fight for fair pay, safer workplaces and secure futures for everyone in our industry. Safety standards must never be compromised, especially in factory environments where workers face heavy machinery, chemicals, noise, heat, shift work and musculoskeletal strain.
Our industry is also central to the transition away from plastics, and decarbonisation must be worked-centred and include investment in energy‑efficient production, recycling infrastructure, green heat and power, sustainable forestry and responsible sourcing. We will always oppose attempts to use environmental targets as cover or code for job losses, wage suppression or outsourcing. Our priorities for the sector remain clear: safe workplaces, fair pay for every worker, job security and futureproofing, stronger rights and collective bargaining, sustained investment through a strong national industrial strategy, and protection against unfair import competition.
We work closely with the Confederation of Paper Industries, particularly on health and safety, to secure better standards across the industry.
