GMB members in Leicester have condemned moves to force an academisation process on Westgate School, currently part of the Leicester City Council schools network.
The move was tabled prior to recent improvements in the school’s position, recently rated GOOD in an Ofsted inspection.
GMB members are calling on the Regional Schools’ Commissioner and the Secretary of State for Education to intervene to stop the unnecessary forced academisation of the school.
Jim Clarke, GMB Regional Organiser, said:
“This is a reckless move and is deeply unpopular with school staff, parents and the local community.
Westgate has shown itself incredibly capable at delivering first class education to local pupils, and improving the schools position despite there being a national pandemic.
Academisation is not the right fit for Westgate, and our members will be joining other is calling for it to be scrapped”.
