Water shareholders must stump up to combat sewage spills.
Spills into England's rivers and seas by water companies more than doubled last year.
According to the Environment Agency there were 3.6 million hours of spills compared to 1.75 million hours in 2022.
Gary Carter, GMB National Officer, said:
“It’s completely grotesque; shareholders trouser fortunes while England’s beautiful waterways are fouled with effluent.
“The whole water sector is in a complete mess thanks to the perverse incentives of privatisation – it needs a total overhaul.
“But in the meantime, the least shareholders could do is stop hoovering up dividends and allow the cash to be used for failing infrastructure.”
