Workers are desperate; something has got to give
Hundreds of health workers in Northern Ireland will be balloted for strike action GMB Union launches a formal ballot.
Health service workers across the NHS and Northern Ireland Ambulance Service will begin voting today [18 October].
The ballot closes on 7 November, with any strike action likely before Christmas.
Health workers in Northern Ireland are angry over the lack of any kind of pay offer to help with the cost of living crush and unsafe staffing levels.
Jim Donley, GMB Organiser, said:
“Health workers in Northern Ireland should not be worrying about how they’ll heat their homes this winter or feed their families, whilst trying to save lives.
“Meanwhile the staffing black hole has got to the point where members are unable to do their job properly. Lives are being put at risk.
“Workers are desperate; something has got to give. “
