GMB Trade Union - NI Water chaos paused as workers vote on deal

Potential major disruption to Northern Ireland’s water has been paused while workers vote on a new pay offer.

GMB members were in the midst of a strike ballot – due to close on Monday [9 December] - after missing out on a pay rise and a lump sum given to other civil service workers.

However workers have now been offered a 5 per cent pay rise and a one-off payment of £1,500.

The result is expected on 11 December.

Alan Perry, GMB Regional Organiser, said:

”Having to wait 21 months for a pay offer is not acceptable - especially when our members are on the lowest pay scales in the company and other public sector workers received their bonus months ago.

“We are now balloting our members on the proposed pay offer we will confirm the outcome of that ballot as soon as it is concluded.”
