GMB Union has responded to a warning by the CBI that that labour supply problems could last up to two years.
Gary Smith, GMB General Secretary, said:
“Standing still is not an option but neither is “business as usual” if Britain wants to tackle it’s labour market crisis.
“There is no getting away from the fact that we are paying the price now for years of cost-cutting and austerity on workers’ pay and conditions.
“And instead of easing the labour market crisis, a furlough cliff-edge risks choking a recovery before it even begins.
“The lessons of the last decade must be learned, you can’t cut your way out of a crisis.
“It’s time to end Britain’s race-to-the-bottom on pay and conditions.”
