Job Centre security guards will stage a mass rally at the Supreme Court as 1,500 strike across the UK.
The guards - employed by private outsourcing giant G4S - will then march to DWP and G4S headquarters.
More than 1,500 guards are on strike today [Monday] until Saturday 20 July across the UK [See note 1 for list of prominent pickets across the UK]
Workers are angry over the fact 90 per cent of the guards are now paid just the minimum wage.
G4S has a multi-million pound contract with the Department for Work and pensions (DWP) to provide security at Job Centres across the UK
Eamon O’Hearn, GMB National Officer, said:
“Under the Conservative Government, DWP and G4S have happily overseen hundreds of days lost to Job Centres closures and security guards go hungry on poverty pay.
“But things have changed and these workers will not give up their fight.
"Now G4S are paying more for Agency staff than their own guards to break the strikes, is the time when the DWP has to do the right thing and step in and end this long-running dispute.”
