GMB Trade Union - ISG collapse puts new prison at risk

GMB Union has responded to the collapse of ISG.

The company went into administration holding 69 Government contracts worth more than £1.8 billion - including a new prison designed to alleviate overcrowding.

Up to 2,200 job are set to be lost..

Kevin Brandstatter, GMB National Officer, said:

"The Collapse of ISG leaves all the Government contracts it held, worth 1.8 billion of taxpayer cash, in jeopardy.

"The is the largest collapse in the industry since Carillion was liquidated.

"There appears to be something fundamentally wrong with the procurement process. The free market seems unable to deliver projects on time or to cost.

"It's time the public sector ends its reliance on the private sector to deliver big projects."
