GMB have today announced overwhelming support for industrial action amongst members at Special Metals Wiggin in Hereford.
The company, which produces Nickel specialist products for the aerospace, automotive, oil and gas industries, employs over 300 GMB members.
This industrial action will take the form of an overtime ban and will come into place from 23rd May.
Over 98% of those balloted voted for action after it was announced staff across the company would be facing a real terms pay cut.
With inflation at a staggering 9 per cent, the union has put forward a substantial interim pay claim for it’s members at the company which to date the company have refused to meet.
Matt Roberts, GMB Senior Steward, said:
“This is a loud and clear message for company management that our members are ready to impose an overtime ban at the company over this derisory pay offer".
"The cost of living crisis is hitting us all hard and we’re taking action so the company understand the depth of feeling amongst it’s workforce on this issue”.
"This result sends a very clear message to management. They need to get back around the table and come up with a substantial increase to the basic rate".
