GMB Trade Union - Fire & rehire threat at Birmingham manufacturer.

Company managers are trying to slash workers terms and conditions while its still legal, says GMB.

GMB Union has today slammed a Birmingham based door manufacturer after it came to light that workers had been threatened with the sack if they refused to accept worse terms and conditions.

The threat, known at Fire & Rehire, has seen workers at fire-door manufacturer Knowles given just days to accept a new contract.

Around 100 workers at the company are impacted by the threat.

Chris Hoofe, GMB Organiser, said:

“Fire & rehire belongs on the scrap heap of history, not in the board rooms of companies here in Birmingham.

“Knowles are one of the UK’s largest fire door manufacturers, with customers including major council’s and businesses.

“GMB members are furious at being left with no option by company top brass to swallow worse terms and conditions – or face the sack.

“The company are clearly trying to sneak through firing an re-hiring their entire workforce, before the Government make it illegal.

“Workers are determined to fight to maintain their current terms and conditions and are considering their options”.
