We more detail and assurances from Government on protection of jobs and terms and conditions
GMB, the energy union, has described Government plans to strip National Grid of its role keeping Great Britain’s lights on as 'a step in the right direction’.
Gary Carter, GMB National Officer, said:
“The UK needs a plan and investment to upscale electrification and deliver net zero.
“If the infrastructure for increased electric vehicle usage is going to happen - and with it thousands of well paid, skilled green jobs - then removing the Electricity System Operator from the private monopoly of National Grid is a step in the right direction.
“However we need more detail and assurances from the Government on the model for the new independent organisation and protection of jobs and terms and conditions for its employees.
“The new model will need to be fit for purpose to deliver for consumers and build electrical capacity and green well paid jobs.”
