GMB Union has warned any lifting of the public sector pay freeze must come with a meaningful increase after years of real terms cuts.
Rachel Harrison, GMB National Officer, said:
“Any lifting of the pay freeze must be accompanied by meaningful pay increases after years of real terms pay cuts.
"The freeze should never have been imposed, and the challenge will be how far the Tories are prepared to go to roll back their ruinous decade of austerity.
"Any pledge to lift the pay freeze must be accompanied by real action - otherwise this will be nothing more than empty gesture politics.
“If Ministers are serious about addressing the vacancy crisis across our public services then the Chancellor must provide the funding to substantially increase pay of all our public service workers.”
