GMB Union has responded to the Department for Education's announcement today [Sunday]
Rachel Harrison, GMB National Secretary, said:
"Today's announcement is a ray of sunshine for our beleaguered schools - after years of grey skies.
"This investment will begin to rebuild our crumbling schools system - fixing and replacing buildings and removing RAAC - making them safe places to learn and work.
"GMB has campaigned for schools based nursery places and breakfast clubs, which could be game changing in terms of tackling the UK's productivity crisis, allowing more parents to work.
"Meanwhile the kinship carer policy makes moral, emotional and economic sense; providing financial support to help them keep children at home with families and out of the care system."
"Today may be the first step on the road to fixing our broken education system and giving our children the future they deserve."
