GMB Trade Union - East Midlands Airport risks being cut off as 'lifeline' bus service for workers slashed.

GMB union, representing hundreds of workers across key services at East Midlands Airport, has today called for council support for the Skylink bus service to be extended.

The bus route, linking East Midlands Airport with Nottingham and Loughborough, serves as a vital connection for airport workers getting to work.

The threats to the service have come as Nottinghamshire County Council announced they will not extend support past April 2023.

Nathan Keighley, GMB Rep working at East Midlands Airport, said:

“The County Council has clearly missed the point that this bus route is an essential link between airport workers and their homes.

“There have been huge staff shortages in the sector in recent years and to break such a lifeline link between airport workers and their place of work is a mistake.

“We’re calling on Councillor Ben Bradley, the leader of Nottinghamshire County Council, not to oversee the scrappage of such an important route for our areas workforce and economy.

"Will he stand by as his council is responsible for making East Midlands airport one of the hardest to reach for workers, businesses and travellers?

“We need to see an extension of the council’s support before it’s too late."
