Ministers, fat cats and regulators sit on their hands while the UK’s precious rivers and waterways are ruined
GMB, the union for water workers, has backed the Environment Agency’s call for polluting water bosses to be jailed.
Gary Carter, GMB National Officer, said:
“GMB has long called for water companies to be made legally responsible for the untreated sewage they dump in our waterways.
“The EA’s call for bosses to be jailed for serious pollution is a natural extension of that and GMB welcomes it.
“Water CEOs and directors are paid eye-watering sums, while shareholder’s trouser handsome dividends. This is cash that should be invested in infrastructure, improving services and paying water workers better.
“Meanwhile Ministers, fat cats and regulators sit on their hands while the UK’s precious rivers and waterways are ruined.”
