A fresh group of sub-contracted workers at Heathrow Airport will get a pay rise to at least £11.05 per hour, GMB announces today Tuesday 15th February.
The move affects workers who work for Mitie and Apcoa within the direct supply chain at Heathrow.
People directly employed by Heathrow have been paid at least the London Living Wage since 2017 – but for the 90,000 employed by contractors, there has been a huge variation in pay says GMB London.
GMB will continue to fight for every worker to get the Real Living Wage.
Perry Phillips, GMB Regional Organiser at Heathrow, said:
“Every worker deserves decent pay – it wasn’t fair that people employed by external contractors were getting less than their colleagues directly employed by the airport.
“The race to the bottom culture of trying to pay people as little as possible to do vital roles must end. No one should be struggling to pay their bills and feed their family, and having this pay boost as the country is facing a cost of living crisis is vital.
“GMB will continue to fight for everyone who works at the airport to be paid the London Living Wage.”
