Support Worker - GMB National Office

GMB National Office has a vacancy for a Support Worker to support the work of the National Race Organising agenda and lead on the administrative support of the Union’s groundbreaking GRASP initiative.

GMB’s National Office supports the delivery of the strategic agenda of the Union through the various specialised, professional functions that make up our team. The National Race Organising team leads on the vital work of tackling systemic and institutionalised racism through a variety of forward-thinking policies, training and campaigning action plans, all rooted in ensuring the delivery of the Henry Report recommendations. At the forefront of this is the delivery of the Union’s groundbreaking GRASP initiative.

We are seeking applications for a Support Worker based in the Internal & Industrial Relations team, who will primarily work with the National Race Organiser on the coordination and continued successful delivery of GRASP (GMB Race Achievement Scholarship Programme). This is an exciting role, where you will be responsible for the monitoring and tracking of deliverables and arrangements and will establish with the National Race Organiser the key duties and task priorities for implementation. You will lead on supporting various aspects of the project to ensure the successful delivery of the programme’s goals.  

In this role you will:

  • Manage the administrative functions for the programme ensuring that the aims are actively progressed
  • Establish effective project governance, processes and systems to be effectively deployed throughout
  • Track and monitor performance and progress on timelines, documents, finances and reports and raise any issues or concerns to the National Race Organiser
  • Prepare and maintain the programme’s schedules of activity, including upkeep of the master project plan
  • Develop and maintain partnerships with key stakeholders
  • Developing and implementing resource plans and procurement of resources 
  • To monitor and keep track of the overall success criteria for the programme, including time, cost and performance parameters, ensuring regular updates are maintained with the National Race Organiser

The successful postholder will also provide some administrative support to the wider Internal and Industrial Relations Team which includes the Equalities department, the Women’s Campaign Unit, and our Health and Safety team.

This is a dynamic role that will allow the successful candidate to be actively involved in all areas of the team’s activities, including taking a leading role in handling all aspects of GRASP’s social media activity.

The successful candidate will:

  • Possess a flexible attitude and a full range of administrative and organisational skills as outlined in the job description
  • Be able to work on their own initiative to undertake duties in a professional and efficient manner
  • Have an understanding of the GMB, other Trade Unions as well as commitment to the wider Trade Union and Labour Movement
  • Be a strong multi-tasker
  • Possess strong IT skills
  • Ideally have some understanding of the issues of Race discrimination in the workplace, or any previous experience working on projects that deal with inequality issues, especially racial inequality, would be highly advantageous
