JOB DESCRIPTION

The GMB Wales and South West Region has a vacancy for an Organiser based in our Cardiff office.

GMB is one of Britain’s largest trade unions; we’re proud to represent over half a million people from across the professional spectrum and all walks of life.

As an Organiser, the successful applicant would join the Region’s drive to recruit and organise new members. This role will carry a worksheet, and organisers will be responsible for building successful campaigns that build and develop the membership.

Applicants must have a proven record of the following:

  • Campaigning, servicing, organising and recruiting.
  • A broad understanding of trade union objectives and a strong personal commitment to these objectives.
  • A proven commitment and track record to supporting, motivating, and developing lay activists.
  • Applicants must be prepared to work as a team and the successful candidates will be able to demonstrate examples of their strong interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively in challenging environments.
  • On a personal basis, the applicants would need to display energy, enthusiasm, resilience, commitment, and the ability to use individual initiative.

Since the backgrounds of suitable candidates can vary enormously, it is important that all applicants complete the candidate statement within the GMB Application Form, which should describe why you believe you would be successful and clearly provides evidence of your personal experience of working on and delivering successful campaigns in workplace(s) and demonstrate your ability to develop strong branch activities and resilient structures.

Other Information

  • Training will be provided to the successful candidate.
  • The hours of work for the role are unspecified and will necessarily entail an element of unsocial hours, including weekend work. Periods of working away from home will also be required.
  • Candidates should be aware that they may be required to work from any location within Wales & South West Region at the discretion of the Regional Secretary, in order to meet the needs of the region.
  • The successful candidate will be allocated a fleet car as there will be a need for travel to other offices and workplaces across the Region, so prospective candidates are required to be in possession of a full-time current driving licence.
  • The Assessment Centre Day and Interviews will be held at the Regional Office in Cardiff on the following dates:
  • Assessment Centre Day on Friday 7th March 2025
  • Interviews on Tuesday 11th March 2025

In return, we offer excellent terms and benefits including:

  • Final Salary Pension Scheme
  • Employee Assistance Programme
  • Childcare Assistance Scheme
  • Season Ticket Loan
  • Cycle to Work Scheme
  • Generous holiday allowance
  • Eye Care claim back Scheme
  • Annual Leave Purchase Scheme
  • Annual Health Check

If you think you may be who we’re looking for and if you feel you meet the criteria outlined in the person specification of the job description, we’d like to hear from you.
