GMB Union is going through an exciting period of change as we move toward becoming the UK’s pre-eminent campaigning and organising union. A vacancy has arisen for the position of Head of I.T. to support us in that work, to lead on the delivery of all aspects of infrastructure and operations related to technology.
The successful post-holder will be responsible for ensuring that GMB has access to reliable, fit-for-purpose IT and communications systems that support the organisation in effectively and efficiently delivering our overall strategic and operational objectives, enhancing service delivery, and managing the Union’s technology infrastructure. You will have responsibility for ensuring that our IT systems support our operational effectiveness and you will proactively ensure that GMB’s IT systems support all end-users - employees and activists - in carrying out their day-to-day work.
In this high-impact position, you’ll lead a diverse team while collaborating closely with other regions and departments across the Union to deliver seamless, technology-driven solutions, with an eye to creating a forward-thinking environment with a focus on new and emerging technologies.
This role offers a blend of strategic leadership and operational oversight, making IT a critical enabler of the Union’s success. The post-holder will report directly to the General Secretary and will be a member of the National Senior Management Team, bearing shared responsibility for helping to shape the policies, strategies and procedures of the union on a national level.
