School Support Staff’s pay and conditions are broken.
GMB wants an above inflation increase in pay and a review of job evaluation outcomes for staff who work with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN).
The pay offer is a flat rate increase of £1,925 (gross before tax), but we know most School Support Staff will never receive this amount as most aren’t on 52 week contracts.
But that’s not all. The Government has offered no extra money to schools to fund the pay offer to School Support Staff. They say that schools have enough money in existing budgets.
This is not true.
School Support Staff know that, when school budgets come under pressure, it is you and your colleagues who are first in line for reductions in hours and even redundancies.
In effect, the Government is asking you to pay for your own pay rise – a disgraceful position to take that will do real harm to schools, children and School Support Staff.
Join GMB members working in schools in the campaign for full funding of the NJC pay offer - “Pay What You Say”.
Tell us below about what you do, how your job has changed, why you deserve a proper pay rise and why the Government should fund the NJC pay offer.
